This year will see the debut of ‘Corsair Cinema’, an independent section of films that will be presented in the Pagoda at the Lido from 2 to 6 September, during the Venice International Film Festival. This new autonomous section is hosted by the Giornate degli Autori-Venice Days. The films will be shown on the open-air screen in the Pagoda (which is equipped for High Definition productions this year thanks to a partnership with Dcnex), just a stone’s throw from the beach.
For five evenings, ‘Corsair Cinema’ will show auteur, innovative and avant-garde films. In these productions, there are no boundaries between documentary and fiction, narration and visionary cinema. They follow in the wake of amateur cinema and film-making experiences that have utilized new technology in personal and surprising ways over the decades, leaving their mark with great freedom while liberating and revolutionizing the language.
The film-makers featured in the first ‘Corsair Cinema’ event are:
Giovanni Cioni - Tonino De Bernardi - Alessio Di Zio - Sylvain George - Ugo Gregoretti - Enrico Ghezzi - Giovanni Maderna - Corso Salani - Mauro Santini.
In addition to screening the films, the aim is to provide a venue for meetings and interaction with the protagonists and the makers of the films, while there will also be concerts and performances by figures associated with the scheduled films.
‘Cinema Corsaro’ will be followed by ‘Fuori Orario’ on the Rai Tre television channel, which will broadcast some of the selected films during the Festival.
There will be special events and happenings by some of the other institutions involved, such as: Rai Cinema, the Turin and Piedmont Film Commission, the Tuscany Film Commission, the Apulia Film Commission, the Corso Salani Association, and Rai Teche.
